GoFest 2005 Review & Gallery

The first Gower Bluegrass Day took place at the Gower Heritage Centre Parkmill, in the heart of the beautiful Gower peninsula, near Swansea, UK. The flavour was very much home grown with local bands and musicians getting together to support the event. We were, however, pleasantly surprised to see how many friends old and new had come from further afield. It turned out to be very relaxed and enjoyable family day-out.

Afternoon Music

The mini festival opened with an afternoon programme of players' workshops, catering for everyone from the complete beginner to the seasoned performer. Leading the mandolin workshop was Bill Titley. Roy Nicholls took the fiddle workshop and Criss Lewis led on banjo. There was something for everyone, with Chris Moreton giving some hot tips on flat picking guitar.

Workshops

Outside the workshops there were several lively and informal jam sessions with Bill Steele (guitar) and Helen Adam (fiddle) leading a slow jam for the not so bold.

Evening Concert

Bands appearing in the evening concert included Slap that Thing, The Black Mountain Bluegrass Band, The Potboilers, Isobel Merriman . Topping the bill was the ever popular multi-instrumentalist Chris Moreton who at the end of the night led all the participants on stage in a rousing grand finale.

Thank you

Local bluegrass stalwart Steve Jones compered the evening superbly, ensuring that all acts sang together in a rousing rendition of 'Will the Circle be Unbroken'

It was a successful collective venture which we hope to build on in 2006!!
